Stone House

Project Details

A private house in the Palmeraie of Marrakech, built entirely from local stone and organized around a central water feature.

Stone House responds to the extreme climate of Marrakech through a strategy of deep walls, minimal openings, and a central courtyard with a reflecting pool. The primary material is a pale golden limestone quarried from the Atlas Mountains. Its thermal mass moderates the intense diurnal temperature swing, absorbing heat during the day and releasing it at night. Furnishings and fittings are almost entirely custom-designed, with local craftspeople engaged in the production of zellige tile, carved plaster, and wrought iron.
