A mixed-use tower in central Berlin, clad entirely in dark-oxidized steel, containing offices, retail, and rooftop hospitality.

Black Tower occupies a corner site in the Mitte district, replacing a postwar infill building with a new 18-story structure that respects the scale of its neighbors at street level. The cladding system is composed of over 3,000 individual panels of weathering steel, each profiled differently to create a textured surface that shifts in color with the angle of light. At street level, the building opens up completely with retail and dining spaces that activate all four sides of the block.
